IF YOU WANT TO INCREASE YOUR CONFIDENCE, EXPLORE MORE OF THE UNDERWATER WORLD AND DEVELOP MORE OF YOUR SCUBA DIVING CAPABILITIES THEN THIS IS THE COURSE FOR YOU!

Most people assume that the Advanced Open Water Course is for 'advanced' divers and that they need vast amounts of dive experience to take part. In essence, this course is aimed at not just the experienced diver but also at the new diver.

This course is designed to maximise your in-water learning (there's no classroom learning or exams), and it's a great way to get more dives under your belt while continuing to learn under the supervision of one of our experienced instructors so that by the time you have finished the course you will be a better and safer diver.

You will be introduced to a range of different diving types under varying conditions so it's a great way to get a taste of the various Specialty courses that you can undertake to continue your diving education.

Prerequisites:

PADI Openwater Diver or equivalent
Minimum 12 years of age
Current Dive Medical (conducted within the previous 12 months)

Course overview:

This course involves 5 introductory dives to each speciality with a knowledge review to be completed before each dive.

3x Shore Dives along the Leigh Coast & 2x Boat Dives (Course confirmation will determine the boat location)

The 2 dives are compulsory these are;

Deep Dive - this dive will be between 18m and up to a depth of 30m (for Junior Open Water Divers 21m)!
Underwater Navigation Dive - you will learn natural and compass navigation skills to further the skills you learnt in your Open Water course.

You will then participate in 3 more dives. This will be selected by the instructor for you as it depends on the advanced course being run and the conditions on the days.

Common dives selected for you are the following;

Peak Performace Buoyancy - this is always done by our instructors as it is one of the most important dives to help you in the future. The dive will improve your buoyancy skills so that you have more control and also better air consumption (Longer Dives)
Fish Identification - on this dive you will learn more about the fabulous marine life that we encounter. This also allows you to enjoy more of your dive off a boat instead of doing task loaded activities.
Boat Dive - this is to teach you all you need to know about diving off a boat and the names used on a boat. We dive off a RIB style boat so will describe how this could differ. Same as above allowing you to enjoy more of the boat dive and location you will be at.

Options that could be put in by instructor if able to;

Underwater Digital Photography - this dive will give you the opportunity to capture your underwater adventure and memories.
Night Dive - on this dive you will plunge into a mysterious environment and see the marine life in a 'new light'! (Done in winter if available due to time of sunsets)
Wreck Dive - this dive is only facilitated on a course that is going to be diving on a wreck. Wrecks that we do this on are the Waikato, Canterbury and Rainbow Warrior. This will give you a taste of what is a popular and adventurous area of diving.
Drift - this dive will give you the opportunity to experience the exhilaration of underwater flying.
Search & Recovery - learn to search and lift that dropped outboard or bulging bag of scallops safely to the surface.

And a lot more... if you would like to know more please talk to the staff at Auckland Scuba about this.
